I think it’s the same as any car. Sludge issues aside, the Saab H motor is just as durable as anything else. It may need a little more loving care than an Accord or Camry, but it loves you back! Around here, I see lots of old 9-5s, 9-3s, 900s, and a few 9000s still chugging along.
The GM 900 and 9-3 are no harder to work on than any other FWD turbo car and the classic 900 is not bad like mad-machine said, you just have to think like a Swede.
Saab’s 9-5 is a competent car with capable and secure handling. The ride is firm and compliant, but road noise is pronounced. The turbocharged 2.3-liter, 170-hp four-cylinder (185 hp from 2000 on) provides ample acceleration. The 3.0-liter, 200-hp V6 is smoother, quieter, and stronger.
