It’s almost a clich at this point to recommend the Suzuki SV650 as a beginner motorcycle. … But it’s still going to be more difficult to handle than a bike like the KTM 390 Duke because it weighs more and has more power. And if you’re a complete novice, you may not be able to handle it if something goes wrong.
The Suzuki SV650 is flexible and predictable, has a thrilling zest for revs and yet is completely reliable, too. It’s more than comfortable cruising at motorway speeds.
75 horsepower The SV650 draws power from a powerful but accessible 645 cc V-twin engine that produces a hearty 75 horsepower and 47 lb-ft of torque. The power is delivered to the wheel via a solid six-speed gearbox that offers reliable and confidence-inspiring gear changes.
GPS verified results place the top speed of the SV650 & SV650S (both the ’99 – ’02 and the ’03 – ’08 generation SVs) anywhere between 125 and 135 mph.
The first SV650 was arguably the best in most people’s hearts and also the most popular and ran from 99-02 in a faired and naked version. … SV650 0-60 mph in 3.39 seconds 0-100 km/h in 3.50 seconds.

The relatively low seat (800mm), sumptuous throttle, frugal fuel consumption, lashings of grunt and light, flickable handling all combine for a newb-friendly ride. On the contrary, feed it some twisties and it’ll munch apexes all day, not to mention stunt on request.
6-Speed There are 6-Speed gears available in Suzuki SV650.
The SV650S has the faring, of course. It also has a shorter wheelbase (due to the shorter swingarm), and footpegs that are higher and further back. The SV650 is naked, has a longer wheelbase, and lower/more forward pegs for a more comfortable riding position. The SV650 also has 1-tooth less on the final drive.
In 2003, Suzuki redesigned the SV650 with a new pressure-cast aluminum truss frame, bodywork, swing-arm with revised rear brake caliper mounting, exhaust, digital speedometer display and electronic fuel injection/induction system to replace the carburetor.
